Republicans also lobby for Hugo Chavez

London 15.03.07 | At the Liberal quarters people are just gozando una bola with the discovery that Giuliani's law firm has been lobbying Texan legislators on behalf of CITGO. Bemoaning the engagement they argue that while the Republican establishment roundly condemned Joe Kennedy's Robin Hood trick with Venezuela's oil it has not utter one word of criticism towards Giuliani, and the fact that his firm has pocketed between $100,000 to $200,000 since 2005. Quite frankly the Liberal position could be taken as a valid one were it not for the silence to criticise their own. As it is is utterly hypocritical. That Republicans are as eager as Liberals to take Chavez's petrodollars isn't news I'm afraid. Perhaps they have already forgotten the disgraceful Jack Kemp, one time partner of Bernardo Alvarez Herrera and Free Market Petroleum, and his dodgy attempt to sell oil to the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Money talks and bullshit walks, that applies to all parties in the land and it would be naïve -not to say stupid- to pretend otherwise. Criticising Giuliani for something some notorious Liberals and radical chic leftists have been doing overtly and covertly for years now is the perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black. The fact of the matter is that Chavez is seen by all as this thuggish idiot with plenty of cash. As the Venezuelan saying goes "todos los dias sale un huevon a la calle y el que lo agarre es para el."
But how about the likes of Chevron Texaco -by no means a Liberal institution- advancing the premise up in the Hill that everything was fine and rosy in Chavez's Venezuela? There is however a remarkable revelation related to this affair, read Liberals are as prepared to damage Republican's image by exposing links to Chavez as anyone. Now that is what I call good news.
