Venezuela sued before the Inter American Court of Human Rights

By Aleksander Boyd

London 14.03.06 | Luis Tascon, Assemblyman of Chavez's Movimiento V Republica ruling party and the man instrumental in the construction of the Maisanta database, will perhaps pay his dues since Venezuela has been sued before the Inter American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) by Rocío San Miguel, Thaís Peña and Magally Chang, three civil servants who were sacked for having signed in favour of recalling Hugo Chavez in August 2004.

After Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel ordered Feijoo Colomine -director of the National Borders Council who excused the wrongdoing owing to "orders from Jose Vicente Rangel," the dismissal of San Miguel, Peña and Chang, the three decided to take the case to the courts. Given the impossibility of getting redress in Venezuela, whose judiciary saw fit to dismiss the charges, the issue was presented to the IACHR.
